Ars Waterfall, Mont Valier, Pic de Maubermé… these are the great names of the Couserans region, known to many. The Couserans region is not just about these iconic Ariège hikes.

So we set off, with Dorian, to discover a loop in the Riberot valley, for equally spectacular landscapes.

On this sunny Sunday, our six-legged friends start this hike very early because it promises to be quite sporty (1800m D+ / 17km).

But why six legs?

Because I have been hiking with my Golden Retriever, Tiwa, for 3 years now and he is always there to accompany me.

That's us!

So, of course, the possible hikes are limited in the Pyrenees, but the Couserans is still an ideal playground! And it's perfect for strengthening this exceptional bond we have 🙂

Starting signal !

It all starts at the Pla de la Lau car park, the start of the ascent of the legendary Mount ValierThe first half hour is quiet, with a slight incline. Ideal for waking up gently and taking the first bath of the day (for Tiwa, I should add...)

Echelle Waterfall

Things start to get tougher when we reach the Echelles waterfalls. A straight climb, as they say! But the views of the waterfalls allow us to forget the climb.

After 45 minutes of climbing…

We finally leave the forest, and there, the magic happens. The sound of the torrent, the plants beginning to flower, the snow-capped peaks overlooking the valley... All these elements make a break necessary to enjoy the present moment with Tiwa (who is already in the torrent...)

View at the exit of the forest

The rest of the climb to the port of Barlonguère is long, but holds many surprises for our retinas. The landscapes are simply sumptuous and dotted with waterfalls and torrents.

And there, at an altitude of 2403m, the long pond appears. It's the perfect place for a picnic. So we take a few minutes to eat, admire the scenery and above all... congratulate Tiwa, who once again, has been fantastic during this first part of the day. A crucial moment!

Here we go again !

We first walk along this long pond. The daffodils, among other things, are beginning to bloom, which adds a touch of charm to this place. And then we head towards the Round Pond under the eye of the Lord of Couserans: Mont Valier.

To finish this loop in style, we continue our journey towards a Couseranse gem... The Nérech Waterfall. This waterfall, located at an altitude of 1350m, is quite impressive. The bridge is in place this time and allows me to cross without any problems.

The multiple views of the valley below and Mount Valier leave me dreaming. And then the rhododendrons begin to bloom, bringing a touch of color to this setting. Perfect for ending my day of photography!

The circle is complete

It's 16 p.m., I'm resting along the Ribérot to recover after this long day of hiking. A last bath for Tiwa and then it's time to return to the South of Toulouse... This day in the Couserans was another success and will remain unforgettable!
