An afternoon of caving to discover the underground of Couserans.

The first time I agreed to go underground, I still remember it!!! I didn't sleep the night before because I was so anxious! I'm claustrophobic, so I wondered why I had accepted the invitation. There was no turning back, so I went. It was in the Georges chasm (very famous among geologists) in the pond of LersI came out alive and so happy to have dared (and proud too!)! I saw the Lherzolite (rock from which the name of the Lherz pond comes) up close.

Then I wanted to discover other caves and the fabulous underground world. I assure you, it's fascinating underground: Nicolas (Caving objective) took me to the Siech cave with my son and his friends (they were 10 years old), near the Port pass and it is there that he accompanies most of the beginners.

We put on our overalls, boots, helmet and headlamp in the parking lot

We look like real speleologists! And off we go for 2 hours underground! Nicolas goes ahead and explains to us the formation of stalactites and stalagmites. Does anyone know how the caves were formed? Uh, well no.

We progress by walking in a stream standing or on all fours. At the end of the cave, a surprise! I won't tell you more. Then we continue our walk to a gallery. There, we will experience the true dark night and silence! A moment for ourselves.

On the way back, Nicolas lets the young people go ahead. Now we're more of a smart guy! Using only the light of their headlamps, we have to find the right route. It's so different from being behind the guide! Personally, if I'm left alone underground, I'm sure to get lost.

Then we move forward until we feel a draft, a sign that the exit is near. A quick debriefing for everyone. What did you like or not like? I can tell you that everyone was delighted with their outing and the instructor.

The added bonus of this activity is that it can be done as a family, with children from 6 years old. Another aspect that I really appreciated is the calm... We discover what true silence is. And it's also an excellent way to overcome our fears!
