There's one place in Saint-Girons that hasn't aged a bit. A classroom from the Jacobins school has been restored to take you back in time. Everything is there! The desks, the blackboard, the stage, and the teacher's office.

Step back in time during your stay in Couserans. Step through the door of this classroom frozen in time at the beginning of the 20th century and you'll be immersed in the daily lives of these children, who spent hours and hours attentively listening to their teacher.

The lesson of the day?

The history of schooling with a journey through time to ancient Egypt, the cradle of schooling, while talking about the man who one day had the crazy idea of reinventing school. We will end our journey at the time of this class, this new school advocated by Ferry from 1881.

The teacher (myself) will take you through the day of a student from Ariège who, coming down from the mountains, returns to the village from the age of 6 to 13, in the hope of obtaining the famous certificate of study. During their school day, they learned to read, write, count, but not only that...

During the visit we will also talk about chores, class life, the creation of schools, and the role of the teacher in village life.

After the lecture, it's time for the "Sergeant-Major" quill writing exercise. A highly technical exercise that delights young and old alike. An experience for the youngest, a return to childhood for the older ones. Be careful, your teacher will check the strokes and the "pâtés," so you have to be careful not to get your fingers rapped!

Are you tempted by the experience? Then visit one of our offices to get your tickets or click on this link to book your visit. We then meet at the Jacobins school on Rue Neuve in Saint-Girons.
