Hiking gear for beginners
– Go with hiking shoes on your feet, high if possible to support your ankles on descents;
– The backpack is the other essential: it must contain at least enough water (and/or micropur tablets if you are going for longer), food (even on a short walk), a small first aid kit, a waterproof jacket (even if the weather is nice, the weather changes quickly in the mountains), a cap and sunscreen, a telephone and a topographical sheet or hiking map (see the list below), and for maximum safety a survival blanket, a headlamp and a whistle.
– If you walk for a long time, or are physically weakened, poles can be very useful: this accessory is recommended for anyone hiking and even in winter with snowshoes.
