Galey Heritage Association

The association implements specific and planned actions for the knowledge, conservation and enhancement of the cultural heritage of the municipality of Galey.

The association has existed since 1972. Originally under the name of Parish Council, it was created to perpetuate a tradition from the beginning of the XNUMXth century which still exists: the sale of donations to the Notre-Dame du Calvaire chapel. The sums collected during this sale made it possible and still makes it possible to maintain and highlight the heritage of the town.

The territory has three places of worship:
* the chapel of Calvary dated 1640,
* the Saint-Quintin church, former possession of the Templars
* the parish church of Saint-Pierre. The latter is classified as a historical monument since April 12, 1996.

The free visit of the village which can be done on foot allows you to browse the alleys or "Carraou" which will make you discover the traditional mountain habitat of Couserans. Bread ovens or "Hourner" built outside the houses. The drinking troughs, six in number, essential for a village that lived mainly from livestock. The communal washhouse located under the old town hall. And the oratories of the hamlets of Orchein of the place called "Le Château" and the Col de la Hourque located on the way to Saint Jacques de Compostela.

The unique Museum of Sacred Art in Ariège with its vestments and liturgical objects. The XNUMXth century Saint-Pierre church housing many objects classified or listed as Historic Monuments. The bell tower clock mechanism dated from the XNUMXth century in working order. The XNUMXth century Saint-Quintin church and its altarpiece. The Stations of the Cross and the XNUMXth century Notre-Dame du Calvaire chapel located on the balcony with its view of the Ariège mountains.
