Association for the preservation of the Courtal de Peyre Auselère

The Courtal de Peyre Auselère is an emblematic site of the Ariège pastoral heritage, safeguarded by the Association for the Safeguarding of the Courtal de Peyre Auselère and its volunteers.

The Courtal de Peyre Auselère is a former summer pasture village. Shepherds and their animals lived there from June to September to take advantage of the mountain grazing lands. It was likely inhabited until the 1920s, but the beginning of its use is unknown. The village comprises dry-stone buildings, all oriented towards livestock farming: stables, huts, mazucs (natural refrigerators), and enclosures.
The site has been protected since 2011 by the Association for the Preservation of the Courtal de Peyre Auselère, which also takes pleasure in introducing it to the general public.

Dogs must be kept on a leash for the entire duration of the visit in order not to disturb the wildlife, domestic animals in summer pastures, and other visitors.
