For the continuity and consistency of its commitments, the Couserans Pyrénées Tourist Office, aware of its responsibility in the impacts of digital use, participated in the Digital Clean Up Day, a global day of awareness of the environmental footprint of digital technology.

The entire team met on March 12, 2024, where, after raising awareness about digital pollution, everyone took action by cleaning their digital data in order to limit the consumption of data servers on our scale. educational guides supported the team on this day of concrete action.

On this occasion, we have therefore deleted 23 files for: 2 897 of cloud files is the equivalent of Go 647 for: Go 84 of emails and cloud files (= 17,6 Kg CO2) and a graduate was awarded to all team members for their participation and investment in this digital sorting day.

The issue of deleting data on your computer or smartphone is the extending the life of your deviceThe primary goal of deleting data from the cloud is to become aware of all the data that has been handled and transferred. Storage and transfer are intrinsically linked. The environmental cost of cloud storage represents, according to studies published to date, a small part of the environmental footprint of digital technology, while the environmental cost of transfer is a little higher.

The challenge is therefore above all to be able to become aware of the immense amount of data that we handle without always worrying about the size of each file transferred.

By March 2024, more than 500,000 people were made aware of responsible digital technology during the 2 Cleanups, with 1 TB erased, 15 pieces of equipment have been re-employed et 614 tons of waste of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) were collected for recycled.

We joined the movement, join it too!

Every year, Digital Clean Up Day organizes an awareness day during the second week of March the digital footprint through action.

Globally, digital technology is responsible for 4% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. If nothing is done, ADEME expects a tripling of GHG emissions by 2025 with +80% of electricity consumed in France, including 39TWh by data centers alone.

The objective is therefore to generate awareness about the digital pollution that our use of it generates by inviting individuals, schools, communities, businesses and associations to take concrete action by cleaning up their data and/or giving a second life to all their digital equipment that is sleeping in drawers.

Each structure can participate or organize the Digital Clean Up Day which corresponds to it:
