Magnificent landscapes will be waiting for you throughout your journey until the final cirque of the Campuls cabin. Also practicable in winter via snowshoes, this route is an ideal route for mountain lovers.
Road access:
From Castillon en Couserans, take the D4 towards Lake Bethmale.
Please note: the track is closed to road traffic from November 1st to June 1st.
1-Departure from Lake Bethmale (1074m).
From the car park, cross the bridge, go straight ahead (do not head towards the lake). After the barn (on the right), continue on the Mount Ner track which climbs on the right.
2 - Continue this forest track which winds through the Bethmale forest for 7km
3- From the Mount Ner area, you can admire the panorama of the Bethmale valley
4-Continue to advance on this path for approximately 20 minutes to finally arrive at the
5 - Campuls cirque (1 m)
VARIATION which allows you to cut a few bends in the track, but whose traces will not always be visible after a snowfall.
100 m After a first 90 degree turn to the right, the track begins to rise gently through the forest. You begin to see the beauty of the terrain nearby. 2km later, you arrive in an area cleared of vegetation and the track follows a tight hairpin to the left.
Km 1.6 Go forward another 50 meters and you will see on your left a path which runs through the forest in a South-South-West direction. Take it for 200 meters and you come back to a barn, on the forest track that you left 5 minutes ago.
Km 1.8 Continue in the same direction, South-South-West, for approximately 500 meters to climb the ridge. During your ascent, you will pass near a first barn in ruins halfway up the slope, then near a second in much better condition (point 1383).
After this little effort, we return once again to the Mount Ner track, but this small shortcut saves us the large loop in the Cadus Forest, which is of no interest.
Km 2.7 Turn right (direction West) and don't leave this track until the finish.
Km 4.8 After the barns of Mount Ner, the track continues through a magnificent fir forest before emerging at the cirque of the Cabane de Campuls.
Km 9.6 From the Cabane de Campuls, the return takes the same route.
