The city of Saint-Lizier

A former Gallo-Roman town and the historic seat of the Couserans bishopric, Saint-Lizier is full of hidden treasures. A stroll through the town's narrow streets reveals covered walkways, half-timbered houses, former canons' houses, cobbled lanes, the clock tower, and the ancient rampart. And as an added bonus, Dimitri, our guide, offers a guided tour of the 18th-century pharmacy.

The Ars waterfall

It's one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Pyrenees ! Stretching over 246 meters high and cascading down three tiers, the Ars waterfall is at its most spectacular in spring thanks to the snowmelt . Getting there requires a 4.5-hour round- trip hike , but we assure you, it's absolutely worth it!

Transhumance in Couserans

This is a major event in our region, taking place from June onwards. And this year, five transhumances will be held in the Couserans.

The Cirque de Campuls Waterfall

Near Lake Bethmale, this waterfall is ideal for a family outing as it's easily accessible. To get there, simply park at the Moun Ner car park and walk towards the Cirque de Campuls (accessible from June onwards). It's even more special at the end of the season, as you might also encounter the shepherds tending their flocks in the high pastures.

The Nérech waterfall

On the trails of Mont Valier, this waterfall will unveil a magical world throughout your walk. Between the clearings that open up before you and the natural air pockets that refresh you after a pleasant little climb, it's a true little corner of paradise in the heart of the Ribérot Valley . In short, it's one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Couserans region!

Sites to visit

Combelongue Abbey and its remarkable gardens

Founded in 1138 by the Count of Pallars, Combelongue Abbey, a Romanesque historical monument , is more precisely the only abbey in the Couserans region. It is one of the jewels of this area's heritage. Its Mudéjar-influenced architecture is exceptional on this side of the Pyrenees, with pure and symbolic sculpted decoration.

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Drop

This chapel, located in the village of Montardit, is an architectural work of art dating from the 20th century. Built stone by stone over 33 years, its 400-year-old architecture transports us back in time .

The village of Aleu

The village of Aleu, perched high in the Couserans region and surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery , will charm you with its character and its views of the Ariège Pyrenees. A little tip : go at sunrise , as the panorama is even more spectacular then!

The Clos des Arômes garden
