Community and cultural life

The mountains can be as harsh as they are beautiful in Couserans and, sometimes, it can seem difficult to motivate yourself, especially in winter, to leave the flame of the fireplace and/or your slippers and blanket in the evening.
However, and this often surprises our visiting city friends, the There are many possible exits and social connection is not an empty word in our valleys.

A rich cultural offering

Thus, a large number of associations offer concerts, animations et  current eventsThey are of multiple natures: aimed at preserving and promoting heritage, social, sporting, artistic, etc.
Some of them even play a pivotal role in local culture, such as Art'Cade, an association that has become "Scène de musiques actuelles - SMAC de l'Ariège", or the MJC d'Oust (for more than 50 years), or Act'en Scène, and Remp'arts.

Many cultural cafes also offer very high-quality programming throughout the year, in places that may sometimes seem unlikely. These offer very beautiful winter evenings to residents and visitors alike, often after a good meal, as at Lake Octopus in Sainte-Croix Volvestre, To the 7 Families Inn in Ercé, or at Mountain lodge in Bonac-Irazein.
Compass in Taurignan-Vieux showcases its craft brewery where warm musical evenings are offered!

At the institutional level, the  culture and heritage service of the Couserans Pyrénées Community of Communes  and the Couserans Cultural Development Agency (ADECC) are implementing an ambitious cultural promotion policy. The public reading network offers a host of activities in media libraries, focusing on books, arts and culture. Finally, a quarterly magazine " The Peddler » presents a wide range of the cultural offerings of the region and its players. The Couserans is always surprising!
