Discover the City of Art and History of Saint-Lizier, a major Occitan site and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela.

PROGRAM

Morning – Guided tour of the Romanesque complex and the 18th century pharmacy.

The magnificent Saint-Lizier Cathedral , adorned with one of the finest collections of Romanesque frescoes in the French Pyrenees, is complemented by the only Romanesque cloister still standing in Ariège. While exploring this complex, you will also have the opportunity to admire the Bishops' Treasury , some pieces of which date back to the 10th century!

Continue your tour with your guide through the preserved old pharmacy . You'll easily imagine the nuns of the 18th century using this array of supplies: from surgical instruments and earthenware to glassware and remedies with curious names. Listen as Dimitri recounts the evolution of medical practices through the centuries, from dog oil to today's paracetamol!

Lunch : Lunch at the gourmet restaurant of the Carré de l'Ange

Paul Fontvieille offers local, Pyrenean-inspired gourmet cuisine, always guided by the pursuit of perfection. Using organic produce, each dish offers the eye and palate a constant search for a perfectly executed work. A passion, in short, for culinary art, or simply art.

Afternoon : Visit to the Bishops' Palace

The Bishops' Palace, which has served as a bishopric, a prison, and even a lunatic asylum, will also reveal the history of Couserans and the site's evolution thanks to a brand-new museum. Then look up and admire the superb Renaissance paintings of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Sède Cathedral. You'll then understand its nickname, the "Sistine Chapel of Ariège"!

End the day with the demonstration of the use of “George and the Georgette” cutlery by its inventor, Jean-Louis Orengo!
