Want to go hiking in the middle of winter? Here are our tips to make the most of it!

  • If you don't want to encounter snow and/or wear snowshoes, generally hikes below 800 or 1000m altitude are the ones to choose.
  • Before leaving, it is important to find out about the snow altitude to know if you need to equip yourself with snowshoes.
  • Remember that it's cold and your best ally is the sun: so prefer open routes (without too much forest) on southern slopes, which benefit from more sunshine.
  • Adjust your schedule: we leave a little later in the morning, and we return a little earlier in the evening. So be reasonable about the duration of your hike, so as not to finish rushing before nightfall and in the cold!
  • Follow the usual instructions when going hiking: have something to drink, eat, cover yourself, make a phone call and find your way (map or GPS)

There you go, you're ready!
For my part, in winter I love the Passeurs walk, starting from Sentenac d'Oust, or taking a trip to Cominac, known for its bird-stepping barns: these are two of the most beautiful southern slopes in the Haut-Couserans sector, with impressive panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks.

We'll help you make your choices with a small selection of sunny hikes!
