The GR are long-distance hiking trails. Along with the Corsican GR20, the Pyrenean GR10 is one of the most beautiful and best-known!

Coming from Bagnères-de-Luchon, you walk via the Col de la Core, the beautiful valleys of Esbintz and Estours, the valleys of Ustou, before arriving by the Guzet pond and the majestic waterfall of Ars, in Aulus-les-Bains. A little further on, the ponds of Bassiès offer you their reflections towards the valleys of Vicdessos to reach the village of sulfurous springs : Mérens-les-Vals. From there, the GR10 takes you through the last magnificent Ariège peaks towards neighboring Aude, then soon the Pyrénées Orientales until you reach the well-deserved Mediterranean!

A diverse landscape
The GR10 offers you in turn ridges, valleys, and mountain villagesYou follow the paths taken by animals going up to the summer pastures and cross dense beech forests. If you are attentive and somewhat lucky, you can spot here a ibex, here a isard, here a vulture...

These are close to 1100 km of trails which connect Hendaye (Atlantic coast) to Banyuls (Mediterranean). The GR10 in Ariège has the reputation of being the wildest part, perhaps the most difficult too... Never mind, the challenge get up!

During your crossing in Couserans, you will have the choice between shepherd's huts, shelters and stopover lodges to rest and regain your strength for the next day.

How was this GR born?

A man is behind it: Jean Loiseau (called "the father of hiking"). It took almost 15 years for the red and white marks are drawn along the Pyrenean trails!

See you soon in our mountains, motivated! GRRRRRR!
