Onward to Mont-Valier!… With our hearts full of ardor, and our impatient imagination, we are already riding through the peaks and valleys with a lightness that we will gradually lose as fatigue weighs down our senses. We pass through the village of Arêt where we notice the old hunting lodge of the barons of Bethmale, and on a hillock on the opposite slope, the ruins of the old keep of Bramevaque, surrounded by a triple wall of ramparts…then appear Samortein and Ayet, the last villages in the valley, and finally the lake of Bethmale.
