Le premier big spotlight on Couserans for the world of cycling was the arrival of a stage of the Tour de France in Guzet in 1984: Bouvatier, Hinault, Fignon were there.
Since then, Ariège and Couserans have regularly been on the programme of the most beautiful cycling race in the world.

France and the stars of world cycling have discovered over the years our big passes : the Agnes pass, the Latrape pass and the Core pass become regular lovers of the big loop. However, they are not always crossed, and in this case, it is often a question of discovering little-known passesThe latest "find" of the Tour de France in Couserans was the Péguère pass. In 2017, the Tour de France honored cycling's love for our mountains with, on July 14, a 100% Ariège stage between Saint-Girons and Foix, won with panache by the Breton Warren Barguil.
Untouchable, the Austrian Patrick Konrad (Bora-Hansgrohe) dropped all his breakaway companions to take the 16th stage of the Tour de France 2021, between Le Pas de la Casa and Saint-Gaudens (169km). A 90-kilometer long number for the double Austrian champion, on this stage which crossed the Couserans from the Col de Port, via the Col de la Core and up to the Col du Portet d'Aspet.
In 2022, Foix would certainly be the departure city and Ariège would then once again be in the spotlight for all cyclists and cycling fans around the world!

The Couserans also hosts an international UCI Espoirs race: created in 1977, the Ronde de l'Isard has since 1998 become a fixture on the calendar of the world's best cyclists in the U23 Espoirs category.
