View of the upper Salat valley and the Léziou and Bégé waterfalls. Magnificent, shaded and accessible, the route can be a very good idea for a hike in summer.

Road access:

From Seix, head towards Salau/Guzet Neige, enter Salau and cross the Cougnets stream. Stop opposite the Café des Myrtilles.
2nd parking option, the Peyrots car park; for the return, take the road "les estartes / route des mines d'Anglade" on foot to reach the car park.

Step-by-step description:

Departure - Take the time to read the information panels retracing the history of this link between France and Spain in the 19th century. Follow the wide, passable road.

Km. 0.42 - After 400 m, you will find the Nine Fountains with a magnificent beech tree. Continue along the path.

Km 1.67 - The Léziou Waterfall is announced and you can hear it. Follow the small path on the left that leads to the foot of the waterfall.
Retrace your steps and take the path on the left to its end. The slope on this section is slightly steeper.

Km 3.29 - At the end of the path, you will come to a vast grassy area crossed by numerous small streams. A sign indicates access to the Bégé waterfall, which you can reach by taking a path on the left.

Km 3.53 - Very beautiful view of the waterfall. Ideal place to eat before taking the path back to the starting car park.

From the Bégé waterfall:
+ 0.73 km - turn left to return to the other bank of the Salat at the end of the Artigue road.
Otherwise, take the path in the opposite direction to make a round trip.

Further information :

The Bégé waterfall (second waterfall on the hike) is subject to numerous avalanches in case of snow, it is therefore strongly advised not to take the path leading to the waterfall in case of bad weather or during the winter season.
Hiking can also be very enjoyable by mountain bike or horseback.

Additional Information :
You are in the heart of the Ariège Pyrenees Natural Park.

We encourage you to adopt responsible behavior in this fragile and shared environment.

- Stay on the trails and take your waste with you.

- Observe the flora without picking it.

- Stay discreet, for wild animals.

- In summer pasture areas, remember to close fences and gates. Do not approach or feed the animals. If a Patou (a livestock protection dog) approaches you, move away slowly and calmly. Do not make large gestures or shout, even if it barks, as it will consider you a threat. If it follows you, ignore it.

- Swimming in lakes is not recommended. Sunscreen (even organic!) and other cosmetics are a source of pollution in this fragile environment.

- Bivouacking is permitted, but only between 19 p.m. and 9 a.m., and more than an hour's walk from a parking lot.

- During periods of drought, all fires are prohibited. In other cases, fires are only permitted more than 200 meters from a forest. Stoves should be used instead of natural fireplaces.

- In the unlikely event of an encounter with a bear (which will try to avoid us at all costs): approach calmly, move away gradually, and do not run.

We advise you to keep dogs on a leash, especially in summer pasture areas where it would be dangerous for you and your dog if it approached the herds due to the presence of Patous.
