Before we talk about swimming, kayaking, canyoning, fishing, spa treatments, lakes, waterfalls or snow and glaciers … let us remind you of who this precious traveller is !

Journey between heaven and earth

I am water, the water that gushes out from the grey clouds of a summer storm, in hundreds of thousands of transparent and crystal-clear droplets.
I remain suspended in the air for a beat, before melting on the bark of an old oak on the ground. I continue my wild route through the underground canyons but, being afraid of the dark, I look for the light. In the distance, I see a resurgence of babbling waters, though much less friendly, which pull me away from the earth. There, I leap into a shower of crystal in the belly of a torrent that embraces both the sun and the sky. I land below in a shower of diamonds on a sleeping lake smoked with mists …

Then, I continue onwards to join the seas and oceans …

Water travels through different natural reservoirs and remains there for varying lengths of time :
Atmosphere : 8 days
Rivers : a few days
Lakes : 17 years
Groundwater : from a few days to several thousand years
Ocean : 2,500 years
Glacier : several thousand years

In Couserans, you’ll find multiple sources of fun

Swimming !

In converted lakes or pools : where can you swim in the Couserans ?
You can also take a dip with young children, for example, in our streams and torrents, or in mountain lakes. Please remember to only put on sun cream after your swim, to avoid gradually polluting the very thing that offers up such wonderful refreshement today !

Kayaking and canyoning

Kayaking, canyoning or even caving are all invigorating ways to “play in the water” ! A hikes to the lakes and waterfalls is always an inspiring goal, as well as the opportunity to photograph our stunning blue, green and turquoise waters ! Prefer white ? Are you tempted to approach the Arcouzan glacier which, sheltered by the Mont Valier, is the most eastern glacier of the Pyrenees ? And in winter, perhaps, on snowshoes ? Come on lovers of sport, it’s this way !

Fishing

The Couserans is a paradise well known to fishermen – for its trout in particular, which swim through our streams, lakes and torrents. Choose from: an introduction in tourist routes at the lakes of Bethmale or Lers, routes reserved for children, routes adapted to persons with reduced mobility, or fishing in lakes, among other options.

The best way to do enjoy it ? You can buy fishing licences at all Tourist Offices! What’s more, at the fishing federation, they’ll tell you all about the water :

Thermalism and balneotherapy

In Aulus-les-Bains, let the water take care of you ! This small mountain resort is, first and foremost, a spa where people come to feel good and be treated – particularly for metabolic diseases, for which scientific studies have proven the benefits of the three thermal springs.

For the general public, the Aulus thermal baths also offer up an aqua-relaxation area with a pool heated to 32°C, a jacuzzi, a hammam, massaging jets … alongside individual wellness treatments or packages !

You can also enjoy the delights of the balneotherapy area at the Saint-Girons Aquatic Centre, where you will find a jacuzzi, two saunas, a hammam and three massaging jet showers (reserved for those over 18) !
